How To: Fitness

Yet another new series for my blog. This time it’s a ‘How to’/tips/hacks sort of thing! Expect tips related to writing, health, beauty, fitness… everything you can think of! If you want tips and/or hacks on a topic in particular, let me know in the comments below! Just a small disclaimer, these tips are based on both my research and personal experience. If you disagree with any of these, you can add and remove your own choices 🙂

So take out your notepads, put the kettle on and get writing!

Consistency is key

The best way to get in your best shape is to always be consistent with your workouts. Whatever exercise program you choose to do, consistency ensures success. Even if you do short workouts like LWR Fitness or longer ones like Tone it Up. As long as you keep your consistency you’ll start seeing results.

Keep track

I don’t mean measure yourself constantly, as that can turn obsessive and very unhealthy. But it can also be a great way to keep track of your progress. So make sure you take your measurements – body and mass – before you start an exercise program, and take them every month or two.

Write them down so that you can take a look back at your progress and see how far you’ve come.

Strengthen your core

Core strengthening exercises are important in a well-rounded fitness program. Your core helps with balance and stability, and makes other physical exercises very easy to do. If your core is weak, then you have more chance of muscle injuries and back pain.

Lift

As women get older, applying some form of strength training in their routine is super important. Weight training, according to research, helps to strengthen bones (so less risk of osteoporosis). Furthermore, as you build lean muscle, your metabolism increases and you’ll lose more fat faster.

Do NOT compare yourself to others

This is super important, and would probably be the first thing to point out to people who struggle with body confidence. We all have our different shapes and sizes. Some people are naturally thin while others don’t. Some people, no matter what they do, don’t put on weight, while others struggle to keep it off. Do not demotivate yourself by comparing yourself to others. Just focus on YOU and the progress YOU are making.

Workout with a buddy

Find a friend or family member who also wants to get in shape and workout together! You not only encourage someone to shed weight with you, you also have fun doing so!

Yoga

Click here for my post on yoga. Doing yoga is great for strengthening your muscles, increase flexibility and helps with weight loss too. I used to to yoga to calm my nerves and anxiety. It may not look like a workout, but it actually is a mind and body type workout.

Routine

This is for the best of results. Don’t just do cardio or strength training separately, you should do both. Alternate days – cardio one day, strength the next.

Patience

This may seem easier said than done, but you cannot expect results after a workout or two! Fitness is something that takes time, dedication and patience to achieve. There will be ups and downs along the way. The key is to stick with it and don’t give up!!

Get moving

This is a no-brainer, but it truly is the first step towards getting fit. If you haven’t worked out in a while, just start by taking a walk then do it again the next day and then the next, and so on. You get the picture. The more you move, the fitter you will become and this will motivate you t workout on a daily routine.
